Unilever Gets 2 Awards for Green Rating in PROPER Program
For the third consecutive year, Unilever Indonesia receives the green rating from the Minister of the Environment for environmental management for both of its factories located in Jababeka, Cikarang, West Java and Rungkut Industrial Estate, East Java.
From 466 companies assessed under the Environmental Performance Rating Program or PROPER by the Ministry of the Environment, only 23 were rated green; two among them for Unilever’s factories. The results of the rating was issued by the Ministry of the Environment to Unilever on 16 December 2005.
„As a company which makes safety and development of the community, including employees, and the environment in Indonesia a priority, Unilever Indonesia has a high standard for safety, health and the environment related to our operations at the Cikarang as well as Rungkut factories,“ said Muhammad Saleh, Corporate Relations & Development Director, PT Unilever Indonesia Tbk. „The rating by the PROPER team of the Ministry of the Environment is one of our parameters to assess our success level in environmental conservation. We are happy that we have been able to maintain a high standard, as reflected from the green rating we have received for both our factories.“
Saleh said that in future, Unilever will keep on improve safety and health as well as environment in order to create a working place that is safe and healthy for employees and an environment that is safe and healthy for the community as well as for the development of the business.
He explained that Unilever is consistently embarking on efforts to improve performance as the company aims to get the gold rating in the PROPER program in future, adding that so far, there has not been a company that has been successful in getting the gold rating.
The environmental performance rating program implemented by the PROPER technical team annually, is based on 6 parameters : water pollution control, air pollution control, solid waste management, use of natural resources, environmental management system and participation in community relations programs. The industry categories prioritized by PROPER are manufacturing, infrastructure and services, mining, energy and oil/gas and agriculture and forestry.
